Cycle Sportive (Non-Competitive)
Venue:
St Ives Leisure Centre
A choice of 100km or 100 miles.
Well what do we say about this one.... A really great first event. Well marshalled, well orginised, Great refreshments, and great Weather.
A really good turn out for Tri Logic even the guys who did not do the event turned up to support and cycle with us mad lot who did it.
The route was a quite challenging at times and had a few nice hills those who did the 100 miles had more although when Linda arrived back she was still smiling so could of not been that bad. Great to see Tri logic 100 miler girls arrived back before the boys.. ( did hear they took a detour to Mrs Miggins for Cream Teas!!!!!!!
Great event and well done to Ceri and her helpers who worked really hard to make this even a good days cycling.

Hi all,
Recent discussions with a few members have revealed significant interest to warrant placing a further order!
Please look at the Endura website 'custom clothing ' http://www.endura.co.uk/Dept.aspx?dept_id=148 if you want to look at the full range. You can have anything on there! i just need 15 garments to place an order.
Please contact me direct : david.cracknell@foodstandards.gov.uk to discuss and/or place your order.
Depending on complexity and the time taken to compile and get your pennies (payment up front please) it may be possible to receive before Christmas but it may be tight. (need to place the order in two weeks)
On the website, the codes for garments are 4 digit numerical ones and it will clarify the correct garment if i can't meet you.
just get in touch as soon as you know what you want or for any advice.
Dave Cracknell.

IRONMAN WALES from wife’s view. Karen k
Started with early alarm, porridge, juice and another check making sure he had everything.
The swim had changed from South beach to North beach due to a lot of swell from this hurricane we were suppose to be having this put an extra 1k run on to the course to transition.
Have to make sure trainers in bag. Oh no forgot the bag!! Left him with that one (wasn’t teasy or anything!!!)
Gave Phil a kiss and a few words of encouragement and left him to it.
He Arrived at Transition checked and unpacked the plastic cover off the bike. Weather before hand was terrible wet and very windy although on the day seemed to be starting off with no rain but a hefty wind.
A 10 minute walk down to the beach ready for the off at 7am.
7am the gun went off and a mad rush into the water what a sight it was to see the sea awash with a great number of athletes swimming to the first boy. One loop then back on to the beach to start another loop.
As the guys came out of the water they all began the 1k run to Transition to get onto their bikes. I waited by the run to transition to see if I could catch a glimpse and photo of Phil only to be greeted by Phil and his swim bag being thrown at me with force saying ‘you can have this’ then off he went (lovely… thought I was going to get a kiss) A few minutes later he was cycling pass me ready for the 112 cycle.
The cycle was on closed roads so was difficult to see him. I managed to get to the half way mark and waited 4 hours to see him go pass me like a rocket focused and smiling. Phil did say the support around the course was incredible and seemed the whole of Wales came out to just shout encouragement.
My instructions were to meet him at the Special Needs spot a mile away so off I went.
4 hours later I could see Phil running down the road and still smiling from ear to ear a quick change of drink and Vaseline rubbed on special parts of the body off he went again.
I waited to see him 3 times on the 3 loop run course and on the last loop he changed into Tri Logic gear ready for the finish.
I walked up to the finish waiting for his arrival. 13 hours 45 minutes later I could see him in the distance still smiling the look on his face was a picture and when he saw me he knew he had finished. A big kiss and sweaty cuddle he ran down the red carpet to the finish and all I heard was PHILIP KNUCKEY you are an Ironman.
One downpour of rain while Phil was running he was the lucky one after he had finished the heavens opened and it was blowing a hoolie. We did feel so sorry for those who were left on the course, the last chap finishing at 11.45pm. Dedication and hats off to those guys.
Afterwards all athletes were treated with fish and chips and a hot cup of tea.
What a day, the origination and event was fantastic from start to finish. We decided to stay another day for the after event party and the performing act was Beverly Knights how cool is that.
I did take him shopping the next day and made him walk up stairs and hills I think his legs were a bit sore…
Phil legs are getting better and he can now walk unaided will he be doing another one!!!!!!!!!!!
15 hours of supporting went quickly but my feet were killing me.
A big well done to Dave Hutchins who also completed the Ironman for Tri Logic I think there was a bit of banter between them. I only managed to see him at the end what an achievement for both of them.

A big well done to those who took part in this years 70.3uk Half Iron Man
A few tales to tell but a great weekend.
Wimbleball 2011
The adventure began with a false start Friday morning. Viv's trail;er tent and van indicators were working opposite each other but finally hit the road at 9.30am once the electrical repairs were complete and the van fully loaded (with kit of course!)
Arrived at Wimbleball campsite by 1pm and managed to erect what was to be our pad for the weekend before the rains came.
Phil & Karen had taken the scenic coastal route to rekindle their.....!But still arrived in good time and beat the wet stuff!
Unpacking and registration was the order of the afternoon before re-packing transition bags in readiness for race day.
The Knuckey taxi toured the cycle route to show me the extent of the hills (Oooohhhh heck - had I done enough training?)
On to the George Inn for some much needed fuel. Phil needed a shovel instead of a fork, he couldn't down his prawn cocktail quick enough - must have been all those extra calories he had burnt en-route to Wimbleball!
Saturday morning dawns-despite the showery weather and wet roads, Phil couldn't resist putting in those final miles on the bike whilst Viv, Karen & myself jogged the run route..........OMG more hills!
A quick transition from wet clothes to wetsuits (plus wellies for Viv - what a sight!) for the official swim practice. Jason Pascoe had pitched up with only minutes to spare but after a debate with the swim official, still managed to get a few metres in.
Back to the pad for more refuelling courtesy of Viv's cullinary skills, fry-ups were devoured. The rest of the day consisted of killing time..........non-stop chatter about all things TRI. The nerves had begun to kick in!
Race day arrives. Up at 5am, porridge and bagels consumed, kit checked for a final time in transition before donning those wetsuits again (no wellies for Viv this time!) Before we knew it all competitors were gathered and led to the lake edge - like pigs to the slaughter!
7am and we were off. Mass start........washing machine springs to mind! I panicked as I was kicked, punched and swum over. Only to realise, upon resurfacing I had an unwanted warm package in my tri suit. Phew- wee! This accompanied me for the remainder of the swim (no escape route!) and the cycle before spending much needed washing time in bike-run transition! Apologies to all those following me on the bike and downwind. Not pleasant!)
The run was finally underway. The course was a multi-lapper and so great for spectators to voice their much needed cheers.
The finish line was in sight -6:29:56 and counting - a final sprint for the line to achieve a 6:30:00. Dead chuffed!
Viv congratulated me, only to be told not to get too close!!!Off to the showers for me. The joys of racing (or not!!)
The remainder of the day was filled with stories of our conquest but mainly at my expense! Thanks guys!
The Knuckey taxi was booked again for the post race fuel-up. En-route to the George Inn we decided to drive the cycle route and collect some unwanted Gatorade bottles which may be laying in the verge as momentos. The Trilogic entourage were soon rewarded with boxes and sacks full of the green bottles in a layby and after 20 minutes of bin digging, the Knuckey wagon was fully loaded (approx 150 bottles). They were being sold for £5 each earlier on site - bargain!!
A recovery feast of protein and carbs, downed with a few bevvies and light conversation with the female pro winner Emma-Kate Lidbury ended a great day.
Finally, a big thank you to Karen & Zoe for all your support, Dave Pell and his family together with the Mounts Bay Harriers contingent. Not forgetting Viv, for getting me through the training, providing the transport, accommodation and banter!!!
What's next? IM Nice me thinks..........with plastic pants!

Dartmoor Training Weekend - Friday 29th April - Sunday 1 May by Angie

Well, the sun may have decided to go back in but it didn't stop us from having a great club weekend away. We booked out the Fox Tor Café bunkhouse which proved ideal for our purposes. Friday afternoon kicked off the training with a 'skills, drills and hills' running session with segments led by Angie, Jan and Barrie. After a carb-rich pasta meal, we had a fun orienteering 'stroll' around Princetown in pairs. Should have known as soon as a prize was mentioned, that it would turn competitive. Well done to Laura and Max for winning the kiddies end-of -Easter sale choc egg! Then Barrie got the cards out and and tried to shark us out of our money (actually dried pasta!).
Saturday morning turned a little cooler for the technical bike session (which included a very long draggy climb out of Tavistock), and after another pasta fest for lunch they were all ready for the long moorland run. Except four of us, that is! Debs, Max and Laura headed off to explore the delights of Tavistock while I went off for a long all-day walk - had a great excuse of elbow surgery a few days previous. The general consensus was that the run was really hard work. We all ate in the pub that evening, washed down with beverage of choice - mine was the fab Jail Ale they brew in the town. Then it was back for more cards (we know how to live) before falling into our bunks, completely wasted.
Sunday morning we carried on the tradition of the sunday morning rides and all headed out for a 3-hour ride. The route took the group out to the moorland towns of Moretonhampstead and Chagford, (I headed out for a half day walk) and met back at the bunkhouse for an informal debrief over a final cuppa and snack in the café.
Chairman Phil was thanked for all his efforts planning the routes and organising the accommodation. The weekend was deemed a great success and will definitely be making it a regular event - there is already talk of another one later this year so watch this space!

5 Tors Moorland Run - Sunday 10th April
This tough moorland run over very hilly parts of Bodmin Moor was made even harder by the glorious sunshine that we enjoyed all day. I had the soft option - a nice walk on the moor, some cheering and photo taking and then we had a picnic in the sunshine - marvellous!
Phil B (to his shocked amazement) won his age group, and so did Barrie C and Jan (pity Barrie was running for Carn, and Jan for Falmouth!). Good run also by Dave M who came second in his age group.

Penzance Triathlon 2011 - Sunday 3rd April 2011
The first tri of the season took place on Sunday, and we had 8 athletes take part and several club members also gave up their time to marshal. Conditions were pretty good, if a little breezy in places (especially where Phil and I were marshalling it seemed).
There was plenty of opportunity to clap for the club at the end - Darrin was first home for the club and took 3rd in his age group; Juliet and Kate took first and second respectively in their age group

An Res Hellys 2011
Sunday 27th March
A misty, cold start eventually gave way to warm sunshine and near-perfect running conditions.
Despite the majority of the club helping out in some way (well, I guess we had to or Ceri would have made sure our lives weren't worth living) we still had a magnificent 7 enter for the club.
Well-run event yet again, thanks Ceri. And lovely pasty too.
Well done to Carol, who brought home 3rd in her age group.

Cycle Safety Training, Monday 21st March
It was about time we all learnt about safe cycling in groups, so Max and Tony organised a session in Nancegollan Village Hall to impart their considerable knowledge.
Max kicked off with teaching us ways to communicate whilst on the bike, especially to tell others about upcoming obstacles, by the use of hand signals (no, not rude ones). We also learnt how to safely look round without careering all over the road (my speciality), by placing your hand on your neighbour's shoulder. Can't wait to try that one out.
Tony then tested us with a multiple choice cycle safety quiz, which I'm glad to say we all got 100% right of course and so were allowed a slice of Beth's yummy homemade cake and a hot drink.
After the cake break, Tony continued with a demo (with magnetic cyclists and everything) of the different ways of riding in groups, and how to change leaders.
All in all, it was a really informative evening, and good to see experienced club members attend as well as newer ones. Thanks to Max, Tony and of course Beth! Let's see if we can put it all into practice on the sunday rides...

Stithians Duathlon Series: 19th March 2011
Once again, nigh on perfect weather was the order of the day for the 3rd and final event of this season’s Stithians Duathlon series.
A couple of new faces turned up to give it a go, and the format remained the same as last time. ie – we all ran 2 laps, then the ladies did 3 laps on the bike while the men slogged around 5 times, then we all finished with a 1 lap run.
Barrie set off on the run at a cracking pace – hoping to take full advantage of the fact that the defending champ, Darrin Porter couldn’t make this one. Unfortunately, his strong lead quickly disappeared once on the bike – no offence to Karen’s equipment but he’s gonna have to borrow a better quality bike next time!!
New boy, Leo Scrimshaw, gave Phil B a run for his money and it was neck and neck as they came into the finishing field, with Leo just edging ahead to take first spot.
Meanwhile, in the ladies race, it was closely fought race with Denise just staying ahead of Linda in the run and the first bike lap. However, a moment’s lack of concentration as Denise approached the timekeepers, saw her hit a rough patch and take a tumble (I’m sure there will be a photo ….thanks Karen!!). Linda seized the opportunity and built on her advantage, finally finishing several hundred meters’ ahead of Denise. Ali finished in 3rd spot on the day, knowing that having completed all 3 events she was the overall champ!
Hot drinks and homemade cake rounded off the morning. Thanks once again to Phil & Karen Knuckey for organizing everything.

Duathlon no 2 Sat 26th Feb.
Stithian Show ground held the 2nd part of the Dualthlon 11 Members and 2 non members took part, and again the weather held for the event.
A slight change to the last one with the lads doing 5 laps of the course on the bike and the ladies still doing the 3 laps on the bike. Make them work harder!!!!
All started off together and the first lap went with no hic ups then the second lap saw Carol P fall over and twist her ankle so had to pull out.
The first lap of the Bike Barry’s chain broke and not being able to repair it decided to carry on and do 5 laps of running.
Mike P also had a puncture on the 3rd lap and abandoned his bike but managed to run back to the start and jump on Carols bike to continue.
Darren P was ‘try and catch me if you can’ and lapped everyone so no chance of that..
Jason B actually over took Phil K on the bike which did not go down well and when Phil came in for the run the determination on his face was a picture, bike was thrown on the floor and he went after him like a rocket.
Thanks to all who helped to marshall and take times.
Next one is Saturday 19th March

Wrexham RC/Tri-Logic training weekend, 12th_ 15th Febuary ‘11
This four day training weekend had been planned for many months, I was asked to lead the B group rides and maybe invite another dozen or so riders that would benefit. The first day saw the groups heading for the Boscastle area, with the A group assisted by Neil Eddy, taking in the very hilly North Cliff road between Newquay and Padstow and the B group taking in a more leisurely route around these hills. The B group with John Allen, Jason Beever, and David Cracknell made good progress until a small mix up at Wadebridge saw the group split into three.
My small group with six riders were soon on the correct route, with the service vehicle blasting all over the place looking for the remnants. Word soon got back that the groups had reformed, but they were with the A group! With a tail wind we soon made Tintagal and then dropped into Boscastle. Not long after that the A /B groups turned up for a well deserved break, certainly pulled our boys out a bit..... After the stop and eat bit we had to get moving again, there was only one way out of Boscasle, UP! We climbed for about 15 minutes, which down here is a long hill, eventually we arrived at Camelford, Truckle Valley and back to Wadebridge. By now it was getting cold and head wind, we split up on this section but the support vehicle kept an eye on the front and back, making sure all were ok. Eventually we arrived back at St.Cloumb round-a-bout, there was talk of group time trialling back to Newquay, a revolution soon put pay to that idea! When we arrived back at the hotel the cycle computers told the tale, the B group covering 80 mile, the fragments of B doing the same as the A’s with 85 MILE, averaging about 16 mph.
The second day saw us riding towards Marazion, not quite such good weather but not wet yet, Again the A group, helped by Neil, headed towards the delights of Perranporth, St.Agnes and Porthtowan , while the B’ers headed towards Chiverton Cross where myself and Ali met John and David. We continued cross country to the top of Porthtowan and onto Portreath, on the run in we caught the A’ers and stopped for a few photos at Portreath. We all started together until we reached Hayle, Neil took the A’ers over Cripplease and Nancledra before dropping back into Penzance and Marazion, we took the B’ers to St.Earth and into Marazion.
A welcome stop at the shed over looking St. Michaels Mount. After the break we all rode back to Hayle as one, the plan was to carry out some power work on the by-pass between Hayle and Chiverton, the ladies started first but Alison’s power and speed soon saw her on her own, the B group soon splintered, but the A group soon swept everyone up, a small burst of about 33mph saw myself, John and David attach ourselves to the back of the group, after that we could relax at about a steady 28mph. I decided that as my legs really hurt that this was not for me, but John and David did really well to hang in there to the end. Again the ride back to Newquay was quick, again I was really lucky, with about five mile to go my back tyre blew out, too late to do anything about it so a lift in the service vehicle was the only option. Again the mileage was about 65 mile with an average over 16mph
Mondays ride was to St.Mawes, we lost a few people by then but still had reasonably sized groups, I took the B group out of Newquay, Quintrell Downs, Summercourt, down the S6 time trial course, Probus and on to Tregony. Then the course went a little hillier and we progressed to St.Mawes. We stopped at the St.Mawes Hotel, where a feast was laid on, all you could eat and drink for £5.00!! 5 hot bacon baguettes and two cappuccino’s later we stepped out into the cold and headed for the King Harry Ferry, turned a little spooky here, there was some showers forcast but up until then it had been dry, (we bumped into Andy Millward on the ferry) the minute the ferry started to move it belted down, hail, rain and cold, once the ferry made it to the other side it stopped, back to glorious niceness! We then headed down to Truro, quick tour of the cobbles, look at the Cathederal then up the big climb to Shortlanesend and then off on a real torture session coming out at Zelah. A speed sprinting section followed with riding at a brisk pace and then sprinting the length of the pelaton to the front, repeating again when you find yourself at the back. Made it back to the hotel after that and another 55 mile on the counter.
Tuesday, last day. I picked up Viv Bray on route for the last ride, when we arrived numbers had really fallen off, most peoples legs had had enough, must admit mine were having trouble peddling after St.Mawes! We did about 30mile, taking in Crantock, Cubert, Newlyn East, Mitchell, Ladock, Fraddon then a team time trial back into Newquay, again the speed of some riders and their lack of understanding about slowing down while going up hills soon had me and Viv in a bit of trouble, we made it back though very wet and very cold.
The whole 4 days were a huge success, and all the visitors did some fantastic training on new roads, the riders from Tri-Logic also benefited, showing them benefits from group riding with longer and quicker rides, learning more about speed and power. The organisers will hopefully be organising it again next year, hopefully involving us again.
Thanks to all that joined me and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did

International Marathon of Marrakesh

I ran the Marrakech Marathon on January 30th.
It was an experience!
The trade show consisted of one table with a few bits of running gear! I managed to purchase an arab type hat to run in and some shorts.
It was also possible to enter on the day.
It was a navigation exercise to find the start which was in a kind of plantation with trees that had to be used as toilets because portaloos did not exist - ............you can imagine what a smelly sight that was before the race!
There were also no baggage facilities so I had to run with a jacket wrapped round my waist.
On the route there was only water and no energy stuff - apart from a few dates......luckily it was not too hot, and it was even raining at the start.
it was a flatt-ish route and overall quite enjoable - except for the course length which ended up as 26.5 miles - which was annoying because my pace was faster than I had run the Cornish in.
Still - overall 3 hours 50 was not too bad. My friend ran the half marathon and that was also half a mile longer.
At the finish you were lucky to gen an orange and the locals brought round trays of cakes that you had to barter for!
We did not trust the local food before the race and stuck to pasta - but afterwards we celebrated in true Maroc style with chick pea soup and veggie couscous.

Storm Force 10 - 23rd January 2011
1st race in the Cornish Grand Prix Running Series
Well done to our 6 entrants in this year's GP starter race - a challenging 10-miler. Although the weather was clear and bright, there was a bit of a head wind apparently, although we couldn't feel it where we were at the drinks station - it was nice and balmy!

A thank you to Tri Logic from Carn Committee:
Hello Tri-Logicals
Just a note of thanks to those of you who helped us out yesterday at Storm Force 10 by marshalling, water stations and numerous other duties (including being sent in vain to find a casualty and missing the finish - Max!). Karen, you did a sterling job as Linda's right hand woman, you did it too well so will probably have to do it all again next year (moral of the story, don't ever be too good at your job!!!!!!!!). We tried not to impose on Tri-Logic to help but a few of you stepped forward and volunteered and gave an enormous amount of help so we are very grateful. Finding volunteers is always the worst part of organising an event so all help is gratefully received.
Carn Runners Committee
Well done to Emma for completing her first 10 miles your were great. Jason did the RIGHT thing and ran all the way with Emma encouraging and supporting her. Like what every man should do!!!!

Sunday 9th January
1st Duathlon in a series of three
Stithians show ground held the first in a series of Duathlons for club Members which 14 members took part. The weather and location was ideal for this event.
It started with a practice lap of the course so we knew where we were going, then a quick briefing making sure everyone knew it was only a bit of FUN.
Start at 10am and we were off Darren decided that the words ready steady go meant full race mode and you try and catch me!
Two laps of running of a hilly route then 5 laps opps mean 3 (felt like five) laps of Cycling ending with 1 more lap of running.
Everyone enjoyed the challenge and ended it with a well deserved cup of tea and cake. Roll on the next one!!
A great event thanks to Phil K and those who helped and cheered everyone on.

CARDEW'S CANTER TUESDAY 28TH DECEMBER
Cardew’s Canter took place under perfect conditions on Tuesday morning.
Fifteen of us took up Barrie’s challenge of running 5 miles, with a twist!
The onion bobbing in a local well was particularly popular, as was Max when he saved the majority of us from a certain soaking – the fallen branch he was walking across was unable to take the strain of the mince pie binge he had clearly been on!!
An impromptu mud pie skirmish ensured that everyone went home in a state that even Persil Biological would struggle with............ but we all agreed that running around in the fresh air, having a laugh and being silly with your mates is a great way to end off the year!

Christmas Turkey Trot - 12 December 2010
Only three TLCs turned up for this year's 4-miler in Redruth. Phil B did us proud, coing 3rd in his age group category and winning a bottle of pink wine for his efforts - nice one!
We also had the pleasure of a few TLC sunday riders (and Barrie marshalling) as support.

21/11/10 - Cornish Marathon 2010
Massive Well Done to Jason, Phil K & Viv, who all completed the very undulating 26.2 miles around Bodmin Moor. A great achievement. Especially well done to Phil who did it with an injured ankle. Their (amazingly close) times were:
