17 Jan 2010 - Storm Force 10

This is the first race on the 2010 Grand Prix race calendar and is renowned for 2 things. Firstly, the usually challenging weather conditions and secondly the free soup and generous refreshments afterwards! It's a great opportunity to get one of your 10 mile or above races out of the way early. Organised by Carn Runners, this used to be called Blaythorne 10, but the Carnies went and moved from the Blaythorne Club premises earlier in 2009 and now reside at Camborne School of Mines Sports Grounds, Boundervean Lane, Camborne.

The route is 10 miles of undulating, mainly  rural  roads. Anyway, the route is very similar but with a few changes: The start is the same, but the finish is now at Camborne School.  Also, there is an off road track section that cuts through from the Carnhell Green road before you get to Praze.

Despite the new name, there was no sign of stormy skies, in fact quite the opposite.  It was great running weather, cool but bright with no wind.    Quite unlike the usual conditions that Blaythorne used to attract, so maybe the change of name had a strange effect on the weather!

A very well-run event, with baggage area so need to run with car keys a-jangling.  After the race, free soup and bread for the runners, pastys for the marshals.  And a special deal that many took up was £1 for a hot drink plus all the cake you could eat.  Happy days.

Nearly 400 entered and completed the race, and well done to all TLC members who a) took part and b) marshalled - a great showing.  New member Dave Hutchins was first home for the club, but no medals this time - the closest was Carol who came 4th in her category.
