Mountain Biking Glyncorrwg Afan
After the excitement of the Velodrome some of the club members got up early for the hour drive to Afan for a spot of mountain biking, the group was a mixture of Abilities some being experienced mountain bikers to those that have never ridden Singletrack trails. The weather was far from ideal as you can see from the the pictures, but did improve, although this didn't detract from the experience.
Our starting point was at Glyncorrwg mountain bike centre, £3 to park all day and excellent facilities on hand including a cafe ( which we made the most of after the ride), toilets, showers and a bike shop. We kitted up and set out on Whites Level Trail described as the most technical of all the trails in Afan Forest Park and is 90% purpose-built singletrack and it didn't disappoint, however the 6km climb at the start was interesting!!! The singletrack was fast rolling and although we had the heavy rain the trails were draining really well, so we could enjoy them without cycling though heavy mud. Windy point and Darkside (the last downhill to finish) were particularly good fun.
Special mention has to go to Adrian as the stead he was riding was far from ideal for use on these trails having a road groupset with friction shifters (not forgetting the old school light holder and rack, see photo) and for doing the extra miles, but that's a different story!!
It was great to ride some fantastic trails that you wouldn't find in our neck of the woods and some excellent winter miles.
